The blue pedal worked fantastically with a boost in front, but the purple one just got out of hand with so much gain. As you can probably hear, the gold pedal has a lot less gain, even with a boost, so it’s better equipped for blues stuff than rock/metal solos.
I used the TC Electronic Ditto Looper to have the same sample solo play through each pedal setup, so you can accurately judge the differences between them. The boost pedal I used was a BB Preamp, and the EQ was an MXR 10-Band EQ in the amp’s effects loop. I played everything through the clean channel on a Bogner Uberschall (Rev 2 for those interested) and a Mills Acoustic 4×12 speaker cabinet. I used a Sennheiser MD441-U microphone on-axis, edge of speaker cap, and about an inch away from the grill. I fed the signal into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface and finally to my computer. The DAW I used was REAPER.
